The movie, Sione's Wedding, released in 2006, showed that the younger Pasifika population of New Zealand (in particular the Samoans) had moved a long way from their island roots. While the older generation still held to the morals, traditions and principles of their Island background, the younger generation was swiftly taking on the secular morality and mentality of the majority of New Zealanders. For better or worse.
Now the four main actors and some of the other actors from the original movie are reviving their characters and making a sequel.
Newton Pacific Island Church will once again be the location for the main church scenes, including another wedding. Various real-life ministers and members of the congregation will again play a part in the movie.
