Famous film directors are dropping like flies. First Bergman, and now Antonioni.
I can’t say I ever enjoyed anything much of Antonioni’s; my feeling was that he delighted in being obscure, and made the viewer frustrated by the lack of coherence in his movies. He was the sort of art film director that can give an art film a bad name, yet somehow he still made films that are talked about years later. I don’t know that I’d chase his movies up again in the way I would Bergman’s, but his death is still a loss to the world of cinema.
